Oprah: No Palin Plans

After the Drudge Report posted a story this morning suggesting that Oprah Winfrey was blocking an appearance by Republican vice presidential campaigner Sarah Palin on her show because of her support for Democrat Barack Obama, the daytime prima donna issued a statement to TMZ denying the rumors.

"The item in today's Drudge Report is categorically untrue," Oprah says. "There has been absolutely no treatment about having Sarah Palin on my show. At the root of this Presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for whatever of the candidates. I agree that Sarah Palin would be a marvelous interview, and I would love to have her on after the military campaign is over."

The item on the Drudge Report, which has also posted Oprah's program line, had quoted a generator saying: "Half of her staff real wants Sarah Palin on. Oprah's web site is getting tons of requests to put her on, simply Oprah and a couple of her top citizenry are adamantly against it because of Obama."�

'Flash Gordon' pace quickens with scribes

NEW YORK -- "Flash Gordon" is moving ahead at breakneck speed.

Sony has signed writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless to pen the script for the new direct on the outer space tale, just a few months after winning rights to the title from Hearst.

"Flash Gordon" centers on the titular young polo player world Health Organization is kidnapped and taken to the distant major planet Mongo, where he and companions Dale Arden and Hans Zarkov embark on a series of adventures fighting a ruler named Ming the Merciless.

Sony's "Flash," a live-action film, follows in a 75-year tradition across many media for what began life as Alex Raymond's comic clean; the place was a movie serial in the 1930s, a Sam Jones-toplined feature in 1980 and a recent Sci Fi Channel series.

The ICM-repped Sazama and Sharpless are writing the lamia tale "Dracula Year Zero" for Universal and Zack Snyder's "Cobalt 60."

The new "Flash" to begin with had been set up at Universal, but rights reverted to Hearst's King Features Syndicate after the project sabbatum in maturation for several years.

Breck Eisner is attached to engineer and Neal Moritz to produce, as they were when the project was set up at Universal.

Our Brother The Native Man Features on Phantom Channel Compilation

It's a well known fact that Angry Ape are avid followers of Our Brother The Native. Earlier this year the prodigious trio released their jaw-dropping second album Make Amends For We Are Merely Vessels. OBTN man Chaz Knapp has followed this by starting work on a solo project and the fruits of his labour can be heard the forthcoming Phantom Channel compilation

After months of boring administration work and lengthy delays upon lengthy delays, the innovative netlabel Phantom Channel will finally release Part 2 of their much vaunted "Phantom Channel Presents�" compilation series.

While Part 1 gained new friends left, right and centre with its focus on dark, cinematic soundscapes, Part 2 is in complete contrast, focusing on melody, colour and, dare we say it, light. This is reflected in the gorgeous artwork, again concepted by photographer and video artist Liam Frankland, whose previous credits include Bitcrush, Last Days, Ralf Zurmuhle and SubtractiveLAD.

Phantom Channel Presents

There are some notable names throughout the 13 tracks, as well as Our Brother the Native's Chaz Knapp, including Engine7, Konntinent, Hurra Caine Landcrash and Shoosh.

It's due to be released, as a free download, on Monday 23rd of June.

Pop singer Kylie Minogue has reunited with former boyfriend Olivier Martinez after a year apart, according to reports published in several UK papers.
The pair have been seen strolling arm-in-arm in the streets of Paris, where Martinez, 42, lives, sparking the reports.Minogue, 39, was also photographed leaving his apartment to take his dog Sheba for a walk.
"Kylie has taken him back - with a new set of rules," a friend of Minogue's told the Daily Mail.
"Ollie has agreed to try for a baby. That was always the stumbling block in their relationship. They have both been single for a year and Kylie has realised she has never had anyone that has matched up to him."
Minogue arrived in Paris last Sunday for the NRJ Music Awards and spent the following days with Martinez.
"She has always described him as the love of her life," a member of Martinez's family told The Sun.
"Who knows what might happen? We would certainly like to see them back together."

'Wonderful Life' actor Bob Anderson dies at 75

LOS ANGELES —

Bob Anderson, who played the young George Bailey in the Christmas classic "It's a Wonderful Life," has died. He was 75.

Anderson died Friday of cancer at his home in Palm Springs, his wife, Victoria, said Saturday.

Robert J. Anderson grew up in a Hollywood family. His father, Gene, was an assistant director and later a production manager. His uncles were directors William Beaudine and James Flood, and his brothers and cousins were editors and production managers.

Anderson was introduced to films when relatives arranged for him to appear in a movie scene that called for a baby, his wife said.

He was 7 when he appeared in the 1940 Shirley Temple film "Young People" and went on to play roles in such films as 1945's "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn."

But he was best known for his role as the young Bailey in Frank Capra's 1946 "It's a Wonderful Life," the same character portrayed in adulthood by James Stewart. In one scene, the story called for him to spot a potentially fatal error made by a drunken druggist, played by H.B. Warner.

Warner took the role seriously and on the day of shooting had been drinking and was "pretty ripe," Victoria Anderson said. The scene called for Warner's character to slap the boy.

Anderson told the Los Angeles Times in 1996 that the scene and its rehearsals were painful.

"He actually bloodied my ear," Anderson told the paper. "My ear was beat up and my face was red, and I was in tears."

"At the end when it was all over, he (Warner) was very lovable. He grabbed me and hugged me, and he meant it," Anderson said.

Anderson enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War, serving as a photographer on aircraft carriers, his wife said.

After the war, he spent four decades in the movie industry. From the 1950s through the 1990s he worked steadily, rising from second assistant director to production manager for movies and TV shows, his wife said.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs didn't disappoint the thousands attending Apple's annual developers' conference by unveiling, as predicted, the second version of the iPhone.
Most significantly, and expectedly, the new version of the advanced mobile phone features connection to faster "third-generation" wireless networks, which partner AT&T Mobility has been busily building out over the past year.
The previous iteration of the device connected to AT&T's slower Edge network, as well as wireless WiFi hotspots. The upgrade allows for faster Web surfing from any location in AT&T's 3G coverage area.
The new device also includes built-in GPS location technology, which can enable a host of new location-aware applications, such as the Loopt friend finder service as well as map and directions. It's also a bit thinner, and cheaper--the device will be available July 22 at $300 for the 16 GB model and $200 for the 8 GB. It's a significant price cut from the original $600 phone unveiled last year.
However, at least at this point, the device has no different method of buying and downloading music. Just like the original iPhone, the only way users can access and download music from the iTunes music store is via the WiFi connection. Downloading content over a wireless operators network -- which the faster 3G iPhone would certainly allow -- generally means sharing the price with the operator, something Apple has been less than enthusiastic about doing.
In addition to the new phone, Jobs also introduced the next version of iPhone software available to all new devices as well as existing ones via a wireless update. Version 2.0 of the iPhone software adds better enterprise e-mail support and other new features.

The flashily dressed Swedish quintette Beseech delves in what they like to call

"symphonic tyke metal" -- a mix of fate, death, and, good, symphonic and gothic elements which, if it doesn't constantly makes sense, rarely fails to surprise. Jorgen Sjoberg (vocals), Robert Spanglund (trail guitar), Klas Bohlin (musical rhythm guitar), Andreas Wiik (basso), and Morgan Gredaker (drums) aren't afraid to utilize unexpected instruments such as violins and flutes to enhance their unequaled dash, which they began development in 1992. Over the line of six-spot age and trey progressively confident demos, the grouping amply embraced their unorthodox aural mÃ©lange and highfaluting lyrical schemes (and Baroque leg dress) in front sign language with Metal Blade and releasing 1998's From a Bleeding Heart. The album received more often than not positive reviews and besides featured keyboard player Mikael Andersson and his married woman, soprano Anna Andersson. Hailing from the modest town of Escatawpa, MS, near Biloxi, 3 Doors Down bad a major-label shorten exploitation popular live shows and the report of a single song dynasty. Soul shouter Solomon Burke's new CD lacks fire, despite title

Veteran soul shouter Solomon Burke slips from his safety zone on his new album, "Like a Fire." After three retro-styled albums in six years that showed off his one-of-a-kind voice, Burke ambitiously moves toward a more modern sound on his new collection.

"Like a Fire" also differs from its immediate predecessors in that Burke records almost all new songs, most of them written expressly for this project. But there's the rub: The new tunes fail to bring out Burke's fiery, expressive voice in the manner his other albums this decade have.

The recruited writers sound good on paper. Eric Clapton contributes two songs, including the laid-back title tune. Jesse Harris, a favourite writer of Norah Jones, also offers two cuts - "What Makes Me Think I Was Right" and "You and Me." The country sentiment fits Burke, but Harris' characteristic mellowness never lights a match under the singer.

Similarly, songs by blues-folk singer Keb' Mo' ("We Don't Need It") and jam-folk performer Ben Harper ("A Minute to Rest and A Second to Pray") are either too relaxed or too psychedelic for Burke to bring alive.

Burke deserves props for taking chances; unfortunately, the writers he requested failed to give the King of Rock and Soul something worthy of his royal bearing.

Check out this track: "The Fall," co-written by the album's producer Steve Jordan, allows Burke to show how convincingly he can straddle the best aspects of R&B and country music.
